Who controls your business accounts? Use this checklist
Use our free account ownership worksheet to record business owners, administrators and recovery routes. Includes instructions without storing passwords.

“Our old web person has the login” is a starting point, not an ownership record. The free business account ownership checklist helps separate who owns a service, who administers it and how the business can recover authorised access.

List the accounts the business depends on
The Worksheet tab starts with suggested services such as the domain registrar, DNS provider and business email. Add the systems you actually use. Record a business owner and the current administrator role separately. A provider may administer a service without being the person who should make decisions about it.
Describe the recovery route without storing secrets
Record whether recovery is controlled by the business and where the authorised process is documented. Use a description or secure-vault reference. Do not enter passwords, recovery keys, backup codes or secret answers. A checklist that becomes another store of credentials creates a different problem.
Confirm access through the proper process
Ask the responsible administrator to verify authorised access and the provider's recovery process. Do not test by locking somebody out. Record what evidence was checked and whether MFA has been confirmed. Not checked is a valid status when it accurately describes what is known.
Turn uncertainty into an action
The fictional hosting example has an external administrator but missing ownership evidence and no agreed backup contact. Its next action is to document the owner and recovery route. Use the same structure for unresolved questions: action, owner and review date. Store completed copies with restricted access and revisit them when staff or providers change.

Use the separate checklist for a planned domain handover.
